SmartWork is a powerful online tutorial and assessment system that coaches students as they work practice assignments. SmartWork is designed to pair perfectly with the textbook an instructor assigns and includes pre-built assignments to help instructors get started quickly and easily.
Are class-tests or trial access available for SmartWork?
Yes, class tests and trial access are currently available. Please contact your local Norton representative for more information.
I have adopted your book bundled with SmartWork. How do I set up my course?
First, sign up for access to the Instructor Resources page for your textbook. We will send a login to the email address you provide, usually within 24 business hours. Please register using your school email address, if you have one, so that we may easily verify that the request originates from an instructor.
Once you’ve been verified, go to http://wwnorton.com/smartwork, click the "Request Your Course" link in INSTRUCTORS area of the left-side navigation bar, and then choose your text. You'll be asked to provide the information we'll need to set up your course, and to setup a SmartWork user account.
We’ll process your course request and send you an email when your course is ready.
What does the Registration Code do, and how do students get one?
The Registration Code is students' proof of purchase from Norton. They'll enter this code during registration; after that they will login with a user name and password of their own choosing. These codes, which always take the form XXXX-XXXX, are distributed within SmartWork folders that can be bundled with new books at a deep discount.
To learn more about value packages, please contact your local Norton representative.
What does the Enrollment Key do and how do instructors get one?
Every course must have an Enrollment Key. This allows the instructor to control who has access to their SmartWork course.
When Norton sets up an instructor's course, we define an Enrollment Key. Instructors can look up (or change) their key at any time from the "settings" menu on the course administrator page.
Instructors will need to distribute their Enrollment Key to students.
How do students enroll in SmartWork?
Students self-enroll into their instructor's SmartWork course. They will need a valid email account, their instructor's Enrollment Key, and a Registration Code from Norton.
Detailed instructions (PDF) are available to distribute to students.
I have lost the multiple-use registration code that I used last term. Is there a way for me to look that up?
Students can use our registration code look-up function to retrieve their previously-activated registration code. They will need the email address they used when setting up their first-term SmartWork account.
Note that multiple-use registration codes are sold bundled with new books only and are priced at a steep discount. Unused portions of a registration code are non-transferable and non-refundable.
What do students see when they login to SmartWork?
Students' view of SmartWork is almost exactly the same as an instructor's—however, students have fewer administrative controls. Students also don't see any assignments an instructor has marked as "hidden." As course administrator, instructors have rights to login as any student enrolled in their course. This allows an instructor to view a course in student view, and also to review the record of any individual student's work.
